The Salt Lake Children’s Choir has been a cornerstone of our community for years, nurturing the voices of countless young singers. Each of our alumni carries a unique story, enriched by the melodies we’ve shared and the memories we’ve created. The Alumni section aims to honor your journeys, keep you updated about our choir’s current activities, and foster connections among former members.
At the end of each of our cathedral concerts in December and May, our alumni are invited to once again take the stage and join our choir for our very own versions of a few beloved Christmas carols, and “A Day in Spring.” This heartwarming tradition has long been a favorite segment in our concerts.
Quoting Ralph B. Woodward:
“It goes without saying that great accomplishments, musical or otherwise, are unlikely to happen without the support and tenacity of devoted parents. One of my greatest joys from the choir has been to become acquainted with such remarkable parents. They are the ones who encourage doing our vocalises, practicing at home, and who actually drive our young singers to rehearsals and performances–and cheer them on. This is truly a family endeavor. Regardless of the career path a young person chooses to take, learning to sing at an early age can be a great source of joy later in life. The dividends are long term, and the effort is worth it in the end.”

Wendy Bryn Harmer
Wendy Bryn Harmer is one of five talented Harmer siblings who sang in the Salt Lake Children’s Choir. While they are all extremely talented musically, Wendy, the last of the Harmer children to sing in the choir, was the one who actively pursued a singing career. Her career really began to take off when iconic opera star Marilyn Horne recognized her talent and took her under her wing. In fact, the choir’s director, Ralph Woodward, attended a special recital in Salt Lake City’s Rose Wagner Theater where Ms. Horne, herself, introduced Wendy Bryn. Now, of course, Ms. Harmer sings all over the world. (Interestingly, back in 1983, Mr. Woodward played French horn on the CBS Masterworks Christmas recording featuring Wendy’s mentor and champion, Marilyn Horne and the Tabernacle Choir. So in that way, both Wendy Bryn the children’s choir director have had some connection with Ms. Horne.) Ms. Harmer once again joined her voice with those of our young singers for our 45th Anniversary Celebration in Abravanel Hall June of 2025.
